a question

I have mused about putting out a journal type mag for years, you know the story, i wax on about what I like and think art is etc ( ill rope others in too ), with up to moment art from my studio. 16-20 pages nicely printed... The question is, does anyone want this ongoing monthly art lecture... you tell me... ill hold you to it !

December will see the release of The Sallylanders by me and T P Louise. its a landscape, 8.5"x11" 100 page story. It will be published by IDW.

Grendel

Ahhh Grendel, in my flu state I took some time to revisit some old comics, most seemed kinda lame or just plain crappy. But Grendel still seemed fresh and vital, from the Pander bros, to awesome Matt Wagner illustrated issues 16-19, to the final Tim Sale issues. All are great, real good, a mix of action vampires and sexual overtones... Cool stuff. I still remember getting my first ever issue, I had ridden my bike for 20 minutes to the local mega mall hunting comics, Marvel and DC stuff.. I was tearing through the comic racks as you do, when I spied Grendel #7, the wrap around cover was the first thing that blew my mind, the airbrushed colors were just so fucking cool ( I was a kid, airbrushes are cool to kids ). Taking a flick through it I was soon smitten, it was kinda weird and sleasy, violent and strange. My comic taste grew up that day, I still remember it like it was yesterday.

Years and years and well years later, I got to draw a short Grendel story for Grendel Black, White and Red, I still would like to do an epic Grendel with Matt Wagner one day.. fingers crossed.

Go and buy those first 40 issues of Grendel, you won't regret it !

Post San Diego Flu...

Have you ever been to a really big party and come away with a doggy bag only to wonder what’s inside? Well if you’ve ever been to an SDCC you will know that inside that mysterious doggy bag is usually at least one bout of knock down drag out flu. Every year people gear up for the SDCC and then hunker down through it only to fall down a week afterwards with the buboes.

I remember attending one convention when Ash was working with Todd McFarlane and wondering why Beau Smith, who was working there at the time, was seemingly addicted to hand sanitiser… did he have a Howard Hughes like fixation with germs or was he indeed playing it smart? Smart is my guess.

So while everyone we know recovers from the flu… we say take it easy, at least there’s not another SDCC for another year.

In the meantime, there is at least one guy I know of who works while he’s sick… Ash completed Tank Girl this week and is uploading all of the art for the final Tank Girl episode as I write. Also Metal Gear Solid is coming to an end, not that Snake would ever get the flu, you sneeze near the guy and he’d break your neck (or inspect your dewberries). Ash has had awesome fun working on both titles and who knows what the future will hold for the both of them.
